OUR WALKS

WALC 2026
Noam Assayag
presents the project Activating Cities
A MODULAR
WALKSHOP
1. Meeting at the table or at the park
2. Roaming the streets
Unpacking the prompts.
It started with doors that were rarely blank.
The compulsion to read the city like a book.
When the list becomes long enough, it loops
upon itself.
To walk is to awake an inner dictionary — what we recognize.
What entries we might add.
The missing pages of what we filter out, don't have the words for. For example, naming a tree. Reading an alphabet other than our own.
In the fog,
"dans la brume"
what do we see ?
Associations, memories,
building upon a single word
or discovery.
Playing cards !
The size of the palm, of a name...
the size of a little thought ?
and cards
became
pages
The cards introduced their own game.
What does it mean ? asked a friend over text message. And we devised a list of simple poetic prompts.
The HTML version can easily be altered to suit location, languages, very different use.
The all project is in Creative Commons.
Attention to the ground took different forms for different participants.
A picture of the texture of the pavement every 10 minutes create a mosaic.
The lost
or hope-to-be-found
The strange paint jobs.
The street signs.
This is Athens.
And the fleeting
street sighs
a gush of wind on the flower tree.
Watching our step
and noticing the footsteps... of others.
And some stranger things.
3. What did you see ?
Sharing one to one.
4. (taking the) Time to write
5. Crafting booklets.
6. Sharing finds.
7. And if we have a home-base, letting the typewriters out for a concert of keys.
This is Marseille in December 2024
at Alphabetville.
8. Making cities of papers.

Consider having more than one facilitators for a walkshop : introducing different ways of embodiment, and when the group splits, parallel journeys.
